Amongst various Naadis, Why to read Sri Agasthya Maha Shiva naadi?

As one may be aware, Naadi Astrology is done by reading from Palm Leaves. These naadi palm leaves are in bundles and were stored in Thanjavur’s Saraswati Mahal Library in Tamilnadu. They were obtained by the families of trained astrologers from Vaitheeswaram temple (Nagai Dist., Tamilnadu), and passed on from one generation to another. The texts are mainly written in Vattezhutu (Ancient Tamil Script). These leaves concern mainly human life, future predictions, herbs and medicines, etc. Nadi readings were written by many maharishis (sages) who had insights and almighty power to visualize future along with the planetary tranisitions of the 9 planets (Navgrahas). Naadis are dedicated to Navagrahas too, viz. Shukar nadi (Shukra or Venus), Guru nadi (Jupiter) etc.,

Many sages, it’s said to be overall 18 sages who have written various naadis. To name a few were: Agastya, Vashishta, Sukhar, Kowsika, Bhrigu, Kakapujandar, Bogar, etc. Likewise, there are various types of Naadis written by them like Maha Shiva Nadi, Jeeva Naadi, Nandi Naadi, etc. which can be read in different forms like, Sukshma nadi; Shanti deeksha; Prashna Khand; Gochar Shanthi.

Amongst all the Maharishis (Ascetic Sages), Shri Agasthiya Maharishi is termed as the most Supreme (Ishtavam). Agasthiyar (as known in Tamil) was the first Siddhar (Intellectual) amongst all 18 Tamil Siddhars in Shaivism tradition in Hinduism. He had the power of eight great Siddhis. Siddhis here means, the intellectual powers attained by constant penance and practice of certain education disciplines. Sri Agastya had the blessings of the Gracious Trimurti (Tri-God; Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwar). His Holiness had the power to control the Sun, Moon and other elements, i.e. changing the course of nature by assuming any form. Agastya Rishi had the immense power to just think of any God and Lo Behold, God used to appear in front of his eyes (DivyaDarshan).

Agastya was a revered Vedic sage and intellectual scholar of all fields in diverse languages across India. He and his wife Lopamudra (Princess born in Vidharbha), are celebrated authors of Rig-Veda Hymns & other Vedic literatures. Their only child’s name was Drdhasyu. Sri Agasthiya appears in numerous Ithihas (historic texts) and Puranas (mythological epics), including Ramayana and Mahabharata. His Holiness is traditionally attributed to be the author of many Sanskrit texts such as Agastya Gita (Varaha Puranaa); Agastya Samhita (Skanda Purana). He is one of the Indian sages found in ancient scriptures, sculptures and reliefs in Hindu temple (Shaivas), whose 11^th Century version still survives. Hence, Sri Agatthiyar is the most revered sage or maharishi in Vedic texts. He is also referred to as Kumbhayoni (whose womb was a mudpot) and Maitravaruni, one who is the mover of mountains.

Finally, His Holiness, Sri Agasthiya Maharishi (Munivar) was given the authority and power to understand and write about almost all human births to be born in this Kalyug, by the Lord Himself, when Lord Shiva was having conversation (Samvad) with his consort, Goddess Parvathi about humans and their future predictions in a poetic form.
